Decent day in NEK

Today turned out to be nicer than I had expected in Island Pond, and the rest of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  Clouds did win out late in the day, but the sun was out most of the day, with temps in the low to mid 70’s. As this map shows, the same can not be said to our east in NH and western ME where it was 10°-15° cooler at 6pm.

Beautiful Weather 5/14/14

The weather over the past seval days has been beautiful throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  We’ve seen some clouds and showers, but we’ve also has a fair amount of sun. Temperatures have been in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s currently 73° here in Island Pond as I write this post. The forecast is calling for tomorrow,  Friday,  to be warm but mostly cloudy before cooler weather and rain for the weekend. The trees are starting to leaf out here in IP,  and the lawns are starting to green up.  All of the snow is gone here in town, but I did see a few small piles beside the road on Tuesday on the way to Newark Pond.

We are only a little over a week away from the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend.  .

I also wanted to mention that I setup a twitter account to make it easier to do weather updates that don’t contain enough content for a blog post. You can find it at:  @nekwx

April 11, 2014 snow melt update

The strong April sun has been working on the remaining snow over the past few days here in the NEK. Last night’s above freezing temperatures didn’t hurt either. The forecast is calling for temps to be in the mid to upper 50’s on Saturday and Sunday. We may see our first 70° day on Monday. With these warm temps most of the snow should melt before long.

As you can see from today’s web camera image from Island Pond, VT, we’ve got a lot more bare ground showing than the image from my last post two days ago.
