Warm Humid Weather Weather Has Returned To The NEK

After cool weather at the end of last week, warmer and more muggy air has returned to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Today has been the worst with a current temperature of 82.8°, and a dew point of 67.4° at 2PM in Island Pond.

forecast for Island Pond, VT

Now that Memorial Day has past, it’s time to start getting the rest of the garden planted. I hope to get to a garden center over the next couple of days and picking up a few tomatoes and maybe even a few other vegetable sets to help get a few earlier harvests then I’ll get by just planting seeds. I’ll post some photos of my progress as I go.

Greening up in Island Pond

Spring is finally in full swing here in the NEK of Vermont. The leaves are starting to fill out on the trees, and the grass is getting green. We still have a way to go, but it’s good to see things growing again. Below is a current image from our webcam showing how things are greening up here in Island Pond.

I have also setup a small 4 X 4 raised bed last week to grow salad greens this year. In addition to planting some seeds, I purchased a few sets this week for some earlier harvests. The seeds are starting to sprout even though you can’t see them in the photo below.

I have another 4 X 4 raised bed that I will be planting with summer squash and cucumbers when it warms up a bit more. Since we are under a freeze warning for tonight I’m glad I didn’t plant it yet.

Frost Advisory for NEK of VT September 14, 2014

The NWS in Burlington has issued a frost advisory for the NEK. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the colder mountain valleys see a hard freeze if we see enough cloud free hours overnight. The NWS is calling for a low of 31° here in Island Pond. I have a feeling that we will be a little colder than that. My guess for tomorrow mornings low in IP to be 29°.

Don’t forget to bring in, or cover all of your tender plants that you don’t want to take the chance of loosing to potential frost. I know that I plan on covering my tomatoes 😉

Below is the warning released by the NWS.
