Another Winter Weather Advisory for the NEK 12/5/14 – 12/6/14

The NWS in Burlington, VT has issued the following Advisory for Island Pond
 and the rest of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.


...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS
EVENING TO MIDNIGHT EST SATURDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON CONTINUES THE WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR WINTRY MIXED PRECIPITATION...FROM 7 PM THIS
EVENING TO MIDNIGHT EST SATURDAY NIGHT.

* LOCATIONS...THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN GREEN MOUNTAINS AND THE
  NORTHEAST KINGDOM OF VERMONT.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW AND SLEET.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 4 INCHES OF WET SNOW
  WITH UP TO A TRACE OF ICE ACCUMULATION.

* MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATE...UP TO A HALF INCH PER HOUR...MAINLY
  TONIGHT.

* TIMING...LIGHT SNOW WILL BEGIN EARLY TONIGHT TRANSITIONING TO A
  WINTRY MIX OF SLEET AND SNOW OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING.
  PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN SATURDAY AFTERNOON WILL CHANGE BACK TO
  LIGHT SNOW SATURDAY EVENING BEFORE ENDING.

* IMPACTS...UNTREATED ROADS AND SIDEWALKS WILL BECOME SLIPPERY
  PRODUCING DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

* WINDS...SOUTHEAST 5 TO 10 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...EARLY LOWS IN THE LOWER TO MID 20S TONIGHT. HIGHS
  SATURDAY IN THE 30S.

* VISIBILITIES...AT OR BELOW ONE MILE.

Winter Storm Warning/ Winter Weather Advisory 11/26/-11/27

NWS in Burlington,  VT has issued a Winter storm warning for part of the NEK and winter weather advisory for other areas of the Northeast Kingdom.  Here in Island Pond we fall under the advisory.  Looks like we will have a white Thanksgiving after all. Below are the two NWS statements.

* LOCATIONS…ESSEX COUNTY VERMONT. * HAZARD TYPES…SNOW.

*ACCUMULATIONS…4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW.

*MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATE…UP TO A HALF INCH PER HOUR…MAINLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

*TIMING…SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD ESSEX COUNTY VERMONT EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON…AND WILL BE MODERATE AT TIMES DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE EVENING. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF TOWARD DAYBREAK ON THANKSGIVING.

… THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL AND EAST-CENTRAL VERMONT…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM WEDNESDAY TO 7 AM EST THURSDAY. THIS REPLACES THE WINTER STORM WATCH WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY IN EFFECT.

* LOCATIONS…SOUTH-CENTRAL VERMONT AND EAST-CENTRAL VERMONT. * HAZARD TYPES…SNOW. * ACCUMULATIONS…5 TO 10 INCHES OF SNOW.

* MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATE…UP TO 1 INCH PER HOUR…MAINLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY EVENING.

* TIMING…SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FROM SOUTH TO NORTH DURING THE MID MORNING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS ON WEDNESDAY. PERIODS OF MODERATE TO BRIEFLY HEAVY SNOW ARE EXPECTED LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY EVENING. SNOW WILL END TOWARD DAYBREAK ON THANKSGIVING.

Winter Weather Advisory posted for 11/7/14

The National Weather Service in Burlington,  VT has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Northeast Kingdom. I guess I better get the snow stake setup in the webcam view in case we do get some accumulating snow. Below is the Advisory text.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 7 PM EST FRIDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 7 PM EST FRIDAY.

* LOCATIONS…GREEN MOUNTAINS AND NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST VERMONT.

* HAZARD TYPES…HEAVY WET SNOW. * ACCUMULATIONS…2 TO 5 INCHES OF HEAVY WET SNOW WITH THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL TOTALS ABOVE 1500 FEET.

* MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATE…UP TO 1 INCH PER HOUR…MAINLY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

* TIMING…RAIN WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW OVER LOWER ELEVATIONS BY 4 AM AND BE HEAVIEST THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING. LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TOMORROW TAPERING OFF INTO THE EVENING.

* IMPACTS…UNTREATED ROAD SURFACES MAY BECOME SLUSHY ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BELOW FREEZING IN THE EARLY EVENING WHICH WILL CAUSE ANY PRECIPITATION STILL ON THE GROUND TO FREEZE RESULTING IN ICY ROADS.

* WINDS…NORTHWEST 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES…LOWS IN THE MID 30S. HIGHS IN THE MID 30S.

* VISIBILITIES…VISIBILITIES COULD DROP TO 1/2 MILE AT TIMES.
