Beautiful day in the Northeast Kingdom

Today is one of those perfect summer days with temperatures in the low to mid 70s, light wind and low humidity.  Couldn’t ask for a nicer day in my opinion.  Last night was on the cool side for July with lows in the 40’s in the NEK. We bottomed out at 45° here in Island Pond.

The forecast is calling for another cool night tonight followed by another beautiful day tomorrow with slightly warmer temps. By Sunday the humidity will be a little higher with a chance of showers by afternoon.

The winter that won’t quit

Even though Spring started a few days ago Winter doesn’t seem to want to give up here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, or much of the northeast US for that mater. On Thursday morning, the first day of Spring, we picked up 4 ” of new snow in Island Pond. Yesterday we had a light snow most of the day that didn’t amount to any accumulation. The sun angle is so strong this time of year that even though it’s hidden behind the clouds it’s hard for the snow to accumulate during the daylight hours unless it’s really coming down. We are expecting 2-4 inches of snow today /tonight as another cold front swings through the area. After the front comes through we will have to deal with more cold weather through most of the upcoming week.

As you can see from a current image from our webcam, there is still over 2 feet of snowpack on the ground here in Island Pond.

Spring, just around the corner?

Even though spring officially begins in just three days, it sure doesnt feel like it. Yes, we had a fairly warm Saturday with a high around 40°F. But the temps quickly dropped off, and we only warmed up to around 11°F on Sunday. This morning was another cold start at -22.3°F. That’s certainly cold for this time of year! However, spring will come to the NEK of Vermont at some point, it has to.
