Warmer Weather In The NEK

The last several days here in the NEK of Vermont have been very nice. Each day was a little warmer with the temperature topping out at 78.5°F yesterday afternoon. Today is a little cooler with a current temperature of 60°F at 12:30PM.

In addition to the warmer temperatures, we’ve also started to hear and see some birds that we haven’t seen since last summer. Today I saw my first Rose-breasted Grosbeak of the season. I was also able to snap a quick photo of him to share with you.

I also want to mention that I added a new page to the website that shows the last ten images from the Island Pond Webcam. The link is at the top of the page. You can also find it by clicking here.

Island Pond Still Mostly Ice Covered 5/1/15

Today is May 1st and Island Pond still has ice covering most of it’s surface. The one exception is near the public boat launch and State Beach area off of Lakeshore Drive on the East end of the Lake. There were even two loons swimming around in the open water. Hopefully the warm weather forecast for the next several days helps melt more of the ice.

Even though it looks like there isn't a lot of ice left on Island Pond from this image taken at the public boat launch, most of the lake is still covered in ice on May 1, 2015.

Late April Update

It’s been way to long since my last blog post here on nekwx.com. I’ll try to do a better job updating this page going forward.

Over the past month we have gone from having 24″ of snow on the snow stake to zero snow with the exception of a little snow on the north side of the buildings from where the roofs slid off. There were times over the past several weeks I wondered if spring was ever going to arrive in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. I guess the good thing about it was the cooler weather helped keep the rivers and streams from overflowing like often happens when we have a rapid warm up.

Over the past week it has been mostly cloudy and cool with both rain and snow showers falling here in Island Pond. Here are a couple of graphs showing the weather data over the past 7 days.
