Summer almost here

Tomorrow,  June 21st, is the first day of summer.  You would think it is more like the first day of fall with the temps we’ve been having over the past few days here in the Northeast Kingdom of VT. On Wednesday the high at least broke 70 degrees with a high of 71°. Yesterday it only got up to 67°. The gusty NW winds made it feel colder than that. Today is another cool day with the same NW winds blowing.  It’s almost noon and the temps are still in the 50’s throughout most of the area. The forecast is calling for a warming trend with sunny skies right through the beginning of next week.  Get out there and enjoy it because after tomorrow the daylight hours start their downward trend toward fall.

Decent day in NEK

Today turned out to be nicer than I had expected in Island Pond, and the rest of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  Clouds did win out late in the day, but the sun was out most of the day, with temps in the low to mid 70’s. As this map shows, the same can not be said to our east in NH and western ME where it was 10°-15° cooler at 6pm.

Warm spell throughout the NEK

For the second day in a row we have reached the 80’s here in Island Pond. Fortunately there is a nice breeze to help keep it feeling a little cooler.  Even Coles Pond, at over 2000 ft of elevation if flirting with the 80 degree mark. We are expecting thunder storms later today and showers for the rest of the week. Early indications show a great weekend with temps in the 70’s on Saturday and low 80’s for Sunday.
